OUR WORK

Children Unite works in three ways:

We focus our advocacy work with child domestic workers themselves -organising consultations or research with children in order to gain their views or  recommendations for policy and practice.  We also work with NGOs and funders, organising initiatives to explore different aspects of children's lives as domestic workers.  In all our advocacy work we aim to facilitate children's own advocacy efforts to influence national and international policy and practice. and claim their rights. We run capacity building and advocacy projects in partnership with organisations working directly with child domestic workers. Through a collaborative approach we build the capacity of staff to run effective interventions with child domestic workers and give opportunities for children to identify their needs and advocate for their rights.  Our projects aim to ensure that services, legislation and policy affecting child domestic workers incorporate their views and meet their real needs.  More...

Through our years of working with child domestic workers, we have discovered that many NGOs are working with this group of children in their wider programmes for disadvantaged, vulnerable or ‘at risk’ communities. However, staff often lack the expertise and resources to have a real impact with this hard-to-reach group of children. That’s why we created our consultancy service. We wanted to use the knowledge and experience we’ve built up over 20 years to support NGO staff on the front line to gain access to and effectively empower these children. More...

OUR VALUES

Three concepts are important to the way we work: partnership, advocacy and participation:

Partnership: we work in partnership with organisations providing direct services and support to child domestic workers; addressing their abuse and exploitation, their lack of education and their isolation

Advocacy: we strive to secure long-term sustainable changes child domestic workers world-wide through advocating for changes that will affect as many children as possible. Our advocacy work underpins the services that our Partners provide to children.

Participation: the views of child domestic workers are at the heart of everything we do. We create opportunities for children to participate in everything from designing a project or producing their own film to undertaking research and lobbying at the UN.

Children Unite produce a range of reports, briefing papers and guidelines that focus on children in domestic work. More...
